Ni'ihau Shell Lei are widely known and treasured. These shells can only be found on the shores of Ni'ihau and treasured artisans use skills passed down to create exquisite lei. If you've ever seen or are blessed enough to own a Ni'ihau shell lei, you know just how special they are.

We dedicate this design to Queen Kapi'olani. In 1887, she wore a multi-strand lei of ivory-colored Ni'ihau shells for her portrait in New York before attending Queen Victoria's Jubilee. To honor this fusion of Hawaiian tradition and Victorian style, we've created this special design that pays homage to Queen Kapi'olani and her iconic portrait and celebrates the enduring beauty and cultural significance of the Ni'ihau shell lei.

-Material: 100% lightweight preshrunk cotton spun, dyed, and sewn exclusively for us in Los Angeles

These tees are hand dyed and go through a special process to obtain its color. Because of this, shading is normal and part of its character. Colors may vary slightly due to this as well as the nature of photographing and monitor color settings.

The Lei Pupu o Niihau Tee - Ele'ele is a new favorite top in my closet. The things I love: the fit, the soft cotton fabric, the neckline, the lei pūpū colors and placement, and that I can wear with just about anything in my closet and to any occasion. I also love the service/quality from MahinaMade and the customer support. Mahalo nui.

Island Heritage

I grew up in Honolulu and now live in Los Angeles. I try to get back to the Islands to visit at least once a year. This past visit, two of my cousins, at two different family luncheons, were wearing Mahina Made t shirts. One cousin told me she has something like seven of them. On my last full day in Honolulu this visit, I went to the store in Ward Village. I wanted to try them on to see for sizing and also to see the variety of shirts. I am normally a Medium but sized up to a Large for the looser fit. I really liked the shirts and bought the Puakenikeni – Pear and the Lokelani – Navy. Love them. When I got home to LA, I ordered the Pupu O Niihau – Eleele, one for me and one for my daughter who was intrigued when I told her about the shirts. I really like the Pupu o Niihau. My daughter loves hers also! The cut of the tshirt and the heavier thickness of the fabric are slightly different from the other two I bought. The Pupu o Niihau feels dressier. I hope you do more tshirts in the Tee Luna model. All in all, I love my Mahina Made tee shirts. I regularly check your website to see what new models and styles you are bringing out. Whenever I wear these t shirts, I feel my Island heritage! (This is the second time I am submitting this review. Don't know if it went through the first time.)

Got this tee for my mom and and she loves it! We’ve been looking for ways to support Native Hawaiian businesses, and I’m glad I found this one. I also purchased a tee for myself, and I love mine too! I ordered this tee a size smaller for my mom and it fits, so I recommend ordering a size down.
